Museum of the Home
To reflect the Museum's focus on home and home life, the Museum became the Geffrye Museum of the Home in 2011. The Museum closed in 2018 for an extensive rebuilding project. The Museum was renamed Museum of the Home in 2019 with a mission to to reveal and rethink the ways we live, in order to live better together.
Set inside a graceful run of 18th-century almshouses with delightful gardens, this tranquil, creeper-clad “Museum of the Home” presents a chronological parade of period rooms illustrating the interiors favoured by the English urban middle classes from 1600 to the 1990s. Child-friendly and with an informal restaurant devoted to English home cooking, it's a good choice for a family day out.
Enjoy our new Home Galleries, much-loved Rooms Through Time, glorious gardens and an exciting events and exhibitions programme. We are free to visit, no booking is required.
